The Switch to Podcasts and Office Hours
TheEconTutor was built around in-person instruction. It started with private one-on-one tutoring in the basement of Geisel library. However there was too much demand for my private tutoring and student started organizing groups sessions. We started with two people, then four people, then eight people, then twenty and eventually we built a classroom for eighty people.
That ended with the pandemic and gradually I switched to online sessions. First we had hybrid sessions. They were a mix of people watching in-person, people watching on Zoom and people watching recordings of the sessions. The vast majority of students preferred to attend on Zoom or watch the recordings. Maintaining a classroom was no longer feasible and I reluctant gave up on in-person teaching. I do not like lecturing on Zoom, so I switched my focus to video podcasts.
However I miss the in-person interactions that I had with my students. This quarter I will have in-person office hours where you can ask me questions and I can enjoy getting to know you and watch you grow as people and students.
